Why large organisations are contemplating subcontracting their facility needs to local Work Hubs

Since the pandemic I now make an appointment to get my hair cut. Prior to this I would go to my local barber and along with six or seven other men sit reading a newspaper in the waiting room or discuss sport or politics with them as I awaited my turn to get my hair cut.
I was initially annoyed when I was told that I needed to make an appointment but as the new rules demanded, the era of crowds sitting in a small space were over.
My friendly barber sold it to me by pointing out the obvious, women have for years being make appointments with their hairdressers and only turn up when it is their time and in doing so they no longer waste their time hanging around waiting.
Thinking back I did waste a lot of time getting my hair cut and this new scheme of only turning at my appointed time has saved me a lot of time.

Talking about hair cuts may seem a million miles from my opening comments but sometimes we overlook the obvious. In the region where I live over eleven thousand people commute to work, mainly to Dublin.
Why do they commute? Well the simple answer is they commute because they live in a region which is both affordable and has great amenities but their work place is in Dublin, a city they could not afford to settle down in due to the high cost of living there, relative to their earnings.

Like us men who recently had our eyes opened by the ladies when it comes to efficient use of our time, organisations are realising that there are gains to be made by following the example of those who moved to live in more affordable locations.

Office space in large cities is traditionally expensive but organisations always felt they needed to have a presence in these cities and as a result based their HQ there. What this pandemic has show is that their work force did not need to be physically there.

Although many organisations will want to retain a presence in the larger cities like Dublin, they are now contemplating downsizing the physical presence and subcontracting their office facility requirements to the hundreds of work hubs located beside where their employees live instead.
They are doing this for the obvious reason and that is, it makes financial sense to do so but it also reduces their carbon footprint, ensures a safe work environment and ensures safe human interaction for their employees at a fraction of the cost of what it is in the larger cities. The task of managing the needs of their staff is subcontracted to the Hubs and in doing so frees up management to focus on the core business of the organisation.
