Beale Centre Manager Announced
The Board of Mountmellick Development Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Paddy Buggy as Manager of the Beale Centre. The Beale Centre is the latest in a long line of initiatives undertaken by the Board of the MDA to progress the economic development of Mountmellick and now with this initiative the county of Laois also. The Beale Centre incorporates the Webmill Digital Hub, with 44 desks, meeting spaces and events area, along with the 5 commercial kitchens designed for food entrepreneurs.
The Beale Centre is a collaboration between the MDA, Enterprise Ireland, Laois County Council, Laois LEO, Laois Offaly ETB, Carlow IT, the IDA, Laois Chamber of Commerce, MNCF, Laois Online – Laois Hub Collective and other service providers working together to develop jobs in Laois and the Midlands.
The Beale Centre is dedicated to the memory of Joseph Beale (1801 – 1857) who was prominent among the many Quaker industrial families in Mountmellick. Joseph had woollen mills and employed 2000 workers in spinning and weaving. During the Famine years (1845 – 1849) Joseph converted his woollen mill into a corn grinding mill to feed the starving population. He continued to provide employment unprofitably and kept the mill going as long as he could. In September 1852 Joseph and two of his sons sailed to Australia to be joined there two years later by his wife and younger children.
Paddy Buggy who has been Manager of the MDA during the development of the Commercial Kitchens, the Webmill Digital Hub and the Beale Centre, brings years of experience having worked in both local start ups along with national and international technology organisations. A Laois native Paddy is passionate about the development of Laois and in developing international business.
The Beale Centre is located in the MDA Business Park, Irishtown, Mountmellick Co. Laois, R32 A0PK
